Red Deer Photographer | First Blush Photography » Red Deer Photographer servicing wedding and portrait photography needs

A family poses during a fall photoshoot at Fish Creek Park in Calgary AlbertaWhen people hire First Blush Photography to take family images, I always feel honoured to be the photographer they chose.  There is no confusion that exists about the over flooding of the photography market right now.  The major domestic camera companies Nikon (which I shoot with), Canon, and Sony have made DSLR’s very affordable and very easy to use and I would say that one out of every 2-3 friends I have own a DSLR by one of these large companies and really love to take images with them.  It is how I started in photography and I certainly do not regret taking that plunge and starting to shoot.  I started like many people do and took a LOT of images of my cats, dogs, trees, bushes, more trees…it was the subject matter that I was able to use while working as a Social Worker in Athabasca, Alberta with the Alberta Government.  I didn’t have children yet and they were all I had time to go out and photograph.  I dabbled in different ideas but just kept practicing.  Am I glad that I got that first DSLR – YES.  It was life changing for me in many ways because I stuck to it, have been practicing and getting better for 9 years now and have been running a business for many of those years.

Meet Scout!

Hunger

A few months back in one of my professional photography Facebook groups I was introduced to a company by the name of Cuddle & Kind that was just trying to lift off the ground which had a very noble purpose.  The whole concept of Cuddle & Kind was created with the hope that they could play a role in helping to solve the issue of child hunger around the world.  Seems easy enough hey? (and I say that totally tongue-in-cheek).  Globally, 1 in 8 people will go to bed hungry tonight – that is equivalent  to 842 MILLION people and that is a statistic from 2013.  Personally I would add a few more million to that number for an accurate figure for 2015 as our world population is certainly not declining.

 Bentley Rodeo and Fair
Bentley Rodeo and Fair Firework display 2

This past weekend was the Bentley rodeo and fair, as well as the Bentley Centennial Celebration as the little town First Blush Photography is based out of is now 100 years old.  Bentley throws an amazing party every year for the fair and rodeo including of course a fantastic indoor rodeo at the local curling rink that they transform (with an amazing amount of volunteer time) that always produces an amazing show and a great venue to enjoy an afternoon by yourself or take the kids to.  This year also brought a ton of activities for the children including the much loved ‘bouncy castles’ and of course a magic show and face painting.

Couple dancing on the street face to face

Fun. The simple priority.

Every once in awhile I am honored to do a session for an old friend.  Friends that I have known for years and years and years…sadly dates both my friend and I, but it does speak to our friendship over the years.  Sessions like this I like to refer to as ‘promise sessions.’
I met Laurene in Junior High at St. Vincent de Paul school in Calgary, Alberta.  Laurene and I shared many friends and became friends ourselves over the three years we shared teachers and hallways and many, many laughs.  We continued on to High School where we were in a larger school and our friends grew and grew and when we graduated we went out separate ways.  I went on to University and Laurene fulfilled one of her major goals and did a LOT of travelling where when Facebook started up, we became friends and started to connect again.  It was awesome to hear about her travels and since that time she has gone on to become a lab technician with Canadian Blood Services (which was even more perfect to rekindle our relationship as I am an avid blood donor).
