About the Photographer | Red Deer Photographer

Suzanne Taylor of First Blush Photography welcomes you!

Welcome to First Blush Photography – I am so glad your here.

Hi there!  My name is Suzanne Taylor and I’m the proud owner and principal photographer at First Blush Photography, the premier newborn/children, family portrait and wedding photographer located near Red Deer and Alberta, Canada. For years I have dedicated myself to creating timeless images to document special moments in the lives of my clients.

You may wonder what set’s First Blush Photography apart from other photographers that you have looked at online and I can offer you a couple of different reasons.  First off, I am a multiple award winning photographer and several awards between theNAPCP (National Association of Professional Child Photographers) and the International Color Awardsl Colour Awards of 2015.

Second reason – I am a MoM.  Why the crazy capitals?  It is an acronym that stands for Mom Of Multiples.  I have four absolutely captivating children; my son who is almost 5 and has been my number one muse since he was born and my beautiful triplets that are now two and a half years old.  Sure they are cute and lovely models for me but what does this mean for you?  Let me explain…

Long before I was a photographer I was a Social Worker and earned my Bachelors Degree from the University of Calgary in 2004.  I have worked in very demanding fields like Alberta Children’s Services where I wore several hats from Investigator to Case Manager to Family Enhancement Worker to Kinship Care Worker.  Next I moved into a position with Alberta Health Services with high needs psychiatric patients where my job was to place these patients in facilities that would meet their needs but in Alberta we are terribly short of these facilities creating a high stress and very urgent environment.

These positions taught me the virtue of patience, honesty and caring when dealing with tough and stressful situations; though nothing prepared me for Motherhood when I brought home three screaming infants to a very confused and hurt two and a half year old.  I had to learn to adapt to difficult and stressful situations, emotions and moments that I never thought I would have to – but somehow we managed and have thrived in our little community and everyone is growing, happy and healthy.

So fast forward back to you and your session again.  How do the last three paragraphs relate to your session…regardless of whether you are looking at an Engagement Session, Family Session, Newborn Session, Childhood Session or a Stylized Session?  Patience.

I have had the sad experience of hearing from so many people over the years that they avoided photography for years because their initial photographer was terrible.  Short on patience, poor manner, sometimes bad technical skill, didn’t like kids, etc.  It is painful for me to hear that another person put your family in a situation that created so much angst that photography was put on the back burner – usually because the experience was so painful or annoying for them that it was not worth risking it again.

I have worked with hundreds of people over the past (almost) 8 years of business and I can tell you that most kids and adults are really easy to photograph, regardless if it is the adult who just isn’t interested or the child/children that are exhausted and sad about being dragged out to do pictures.  I don’t let that worry me when I am working – we just go with the flow and if it is a bust we can always try again later.  There is never a point to making a situation worse by demanding that it is done and will be perfect NO MATTER WHAT.  It is a terrible way to proceed with a session and usually if we just wait a little bit and introduce something fun into the equation then everyone comes around.  I allow 1-1.5 hours for each session so there is no rush – though I do shoot really fast and can be done in as little as 25 minutes if necessary.

So in conclusion here is the summary from the above:

You have found or stumbled upon or been referred to an award winning photographer who has been in business long enough to know the ins and outs of most situations.  I am highly skilled as a photographer and highly patient allowing the time to make your session something to remember for all the right reasons.  I am at your service to make sure you get what you want from your session…not sell you a cookie cutter package that may or may not meet your needs.  I am here to invite you to become part of the First Blush Family and am so very glad that you are here.

Suzie
