Promise. Laurene and Tom Engagement | Red Deer Photographer

Couple dancing on the street face to face

Fun. The simple priority.

Every once in awhile I am honored to do a session for an old friend.  Friends that I have known for years and years and years…sadly dates both my friend and I, but it does speak to our friendship over the years.  Sessions like this I like to refer to as ‘promise sessions.’
I met Laurene in Junior High at St. Vincent de Paul school in Calgary, Alberta.  Laurene and I shared many friends and became friends ourselves over the three years we shared teachers and hallways and many, many laughs.  We continued on to High School where we were in a larger school and our friends grew and grew and when we graduated we went out separate ways.  I went on to University and Laurene fulfilled one of her major goals and did a LOT of travelling where when Facebook started up, we became friends and started to connect again.  It was awesome to hear about her travels and since that time she has gone on to become a lab technician with Canadian Blood Services (which was even more perfect to rekindle our relationship as I am an avid blood donor).

During the last few years, Laurene has been in a relationship with Tom and I have no idea the kind of person Tom is when I meet up with them to do this session, except these facts:

1)  Tom loves Laurene A LOT and vice versa.

2)  Tom has awesome taste in jewelry.

3)  Tom is very polite and helpful.

4)  The promise is real.

These facts I gathered from Facebook alone but when I met Tom I instantly discovered why these two beautiful people connected so well.  They are like two puzzle pieces that fit.  No better way to say it.  They compliment each other completely, they are both madly in love with each other (I think I used the term *sparkle* to describe them) and are just so happy.  Happy is such a hard thing to come across in this day and age – so many people fake it and are there just for the show.  Back in another life when I was in University I used to go along with my boyfriend at the time DJing weddings and there were SO MANY couples that looked like it was all a charade and that at the end of the day it looked like the wedding was probably the last thing that should have ever happened to them.

Tom and Laurene are meant to be.  They are so natural together and just so darn happy!  I loved every second of this session we shared together and am so happy for her, because despite the distance our friendship has seen over the years I have always felt that Laurene was one of the most beautiful women I knew, inside and out and I am so over the moon excited that she has found her forever with such a great person.  This was one of the funnest sessions I have shot in a long time and the harmony I felt between them was amazing.  Before I even suggested it and was ready to shoot it, they were already dancing together on a beautiful park path in downtown Calgary.  Who does that?  Two people who love each other so much not a thing in the world was going to interrupt that beautiful moment and quick little moment between them.  The only reaction besides my constant flow of tears behind the camera was the numerous smiles of the folks walking by knowing that those two people will make it.

Congratulations to one of my oldest friends and her dear fiance.  May you two continue to sparkle forever and ever and may your promise to each other stay true, honest and pure.

Suzie XO
