Red Deer Photographer | First Blush Photography » Red Deer Photographer servicing wedding and portrait photography needs

Because those chubby cheeks and tiny toes will change in the blink of an eye.
From the time that you have your precious bundle to their first year they grow faster than any other time in their lives.  The hardest part as a parent is that you begin to find yourself noticing that your child is looking different – but when did that happen?  When did you begin to see a child and not your little darling baby?  Photography is a beautiful medium to keep those milestones forever – just that one second that will remind you always that your baby had your eyes, or had a little dimple in their chin when they smiled – regardless of whether it was gas or not.

Because simplicity matters.
First Blush Photography’s number one philosophy when photographing any newborn, baby, child or teen is that simplicity is the most important element.  Simplicity is never to be confused with boring though. We create clean images where children are the stars. Even when we use fancy dresses and props, your children will stand out in a classic manner that will never go out of style.

Because we are experts in children.
Children are a powerful subject matter and depending on the day they can be happy, sad, indifferent, angry, thrilled…the list can go on and on. First Blush Photography has hands-on experience in dealing with children of all ages in multiple locations and settings. We take the time to work with your child in order to ensure timeless and magnificent images that you will treasure forever.

Because we love to play outside.
We can capture your children’s images while they play in the forest and lake areas around Central Alberta. After all, Mother Nature has the best playgrounds in town!

Because at times, we also love the indoors
We have a fabulous studio setup with clean and modern backdrops and props that is perfect for newborns and children who prefer to stay inside.

There are beautiful moments that I get to capture as a photographer.  I get to capture couple’s madly in love, excited about their future and all that is in store for them.  I get to capture brand new babies that have only been on this earth for mere days.  I get to capture children, running and being as care free as possible full of life and full of love.

I also get to capture the beauty of Maternity Sessions with First Blush Photography‘s Maternity Photography.

There are few moments in life that mean as much to many women.  Maternity is what women are made for and I have yet, in all of my career to meet a women who isn’t radiant and glowing when her maternity session is shot.  The pride, excitement and love is so evident – it makes me very excited to be part of this little life so early on and makes me that much more excited to meet the little s/he when they arrive!  All I know for certain is that they will be loved as much as any baby can be and will be enjoyed and adored forever.

First Blush Photography is so excited to meet this little person in a few short weeks.  Let’s wish Mommy and Daddy good luck for baby’s birth and keep watching for his or her debut!

There are forever beautiful moments that photographers capture everyday.  There are literally millions of us working each day to help share and embrace the moments created by you, our dear and loving customers that show moments of love, purity, respect, fun and enjoyment.  This very special mini session was no exception in Gull Lake, Alberta between two people that love each other very much and are beside each other no matter what through their journey of life.

I always enjoy having a chance to capture two people in love, but who are long married with kids.  It is always refreshing to watch two people looking lovingly at each other and you can see clearly the spark is still there.  I happen to know this lovely couple and know that they have twins and a slightly older child as well.  I know first hand how draining and exhausting having multiples is and the strain it can place on a marriage – or any partnership really.  It’s a constant struggle meeting the needs of your tiny army and rarely feeling like you actually are. No one ever seems happy, the kids having playmates and/or mortal enemies 24/7 and the general mood most days are driven by ‘hangry‘ toddlers.

All of of this plus the pressures of a mixed economy but they still continue to smile and enjoy every aspect of each other on this super chilly day back in December – right before Christmas.  I find few things as beautiful as seasonal change…although the Snirt (snow/dirt mix) in Spring time in Alberta is not very esthetically pleasing.  I feel that Alberta is a beautiful province to live in as we have ample scenery such as the Rocky Mountains, a multitude of lakes and water sheds as well as an endless amount of pastoral fields that make for simply stunning backdrops.

UPDATED IMAGE

It is 2014 and while only a few short years ago we still rushed to the local developers with a film in hand, excited to see what we captured so that we can relish in the moment all over again.  I remember many times taking film to Black’s or Japan Camera and waiting my WHOLE HOUR just to see what I caught on film.  It was so exciting reliving those always precious memories – I have actual pictures of my high school adventures and all of my early adult adventures in albums and loose in boxes in my room.  I also have my adventures to Vancouver many times with different friends as well as various camping adventures – and a trip to Mexico with my high school Musical Theater company that toured with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Raincoat.

So when did our obsession with digital images and copies take over our needs?  When did having an image on a disk replace the love that we have for holding our images in our hands and appreciating the image for the moment that it captured and represents in our life?

I have had a love hate relationship with digital images since I became a photographer so many years ago.  The allure of having your digital image is strong and semi justified.  We like to think that when we have the digitals it will safeguard us from ever loosing that memory and that it is close to almost having it in an album…right?

I hate to say that while yes, you would have some version of your image it is likely saved on a medium that is being extinct.  I was not shocked by annoyed that my brand new shiny Macbook Air that was almost 1900 with all the bells and whistles (only to type on too…can’t even compare to the gauging I got when I bought my 5K) had no disk drive.  I have two USB ports but no space to put a disk.  WAIT.  Don’t I still sell disks???  Yes…yes I do…

How long will it be before your images are no longer viable digitally?  How long will it be before you loose that disk?  I have sadly lost a few in the last couple of years and I have no idea where to even begin looking for them.  Does that mean they are gone – probably.

Even as a photographer I like to think that I will have some awesome time to go through and edit these images later on.  Nope – it never happens and then I have images but then what?

When I meet with families to discuss what their plans are for digitals I always hope that we can at least get one print – at the very least – on the wall.  Ideally customers want to order enough so that I can eat and feed my family for a few weeks (I know – greedy hey?) but as a photographer I hate the thought that you, my precious customer is going to put time, effort and money into a session and it will sit on a disk….or get lost on a Facebook post and that is it.  Really – what is the point?  To show off to your online friends that you have had images done?  To feel validated that you too took part in this trendy movement where everyone hires a personal photographer to capture moments for the wall that does not come from Sears or Walmart?

Your images deserve to be displayed.  Period.

Whether it be prints in an album, a professional created coffee table album, canvas, metal, etc – I beg of you to put something on the wall.

A few years back I ran into a lot of issues with customers who would purchase digital images from me and then come back in tears because their images were not what they were wanting based on the colours that would be printed.  Sadly I cannot control where my customers choose to print their images.  Sometimes it works out well and everyone is happy but when it doesn’t work out it makes me feel really sad and upset for my customers.  This recurring event led me to a decision that has worked out pretty well all in all.

All digital images purchased within packages and individually for the most part are sized at 11×14.  In my years of photography I have rarely came across many people who actually want to create wall sized images of their work on their own behalf.  People are BUSY and the idea that someone will take care of a task like that, providing a high quality product is just too easy and is a very popular choice.  99% of the time, individuals who want to purchase digital images are looking to have some to send to family, maybe friends…they are just to save a few dollars in the printing so that they can get the image across.  Quality is not a huge deal, they just want to send something so digitals make good sense.

I love working with my customers to make sure that they are getting exactly what they need for their homes – otherwise why on earth would you spend the money on a session to not enjoy the images that were created?  I can’t send my customers off with digitals and then have them very upset and concerned on the phone or in person when they went to a third party printer and had huge prints or canvas’ completed and now they look terrible and they have no where to turn.

If you are interested in larger scale digital images from First Blush Photography I am happy to speak to you about that.  At the end of the day though I really want you to enjoy your images and would love to help you get to that end point and show you the customer service that First Blush Photography is known for and for you to be able to hold your memories in your hand, put them in your pocket and share them without the fear that they will be gone once your cell phone battery is done for the day.

Bride and Groom share a first married kissWedding Photography is defined by couples like Courtney and Mark.  Courtney and Mark were a wonderful couple that had a beautiful wedding, at a ski hill, covered in grazing sheep…

That could have been one of the best highlights ever when discussing wedding photography.  There were SO MANY sheep – hired (well the owner was hired) to keep the grass at a reasonable length over the summer months.  I love sheep and they proved to be a beautiful addition to the wedding, especially at those key points where the bride and groom are supposed to say romantic and everlasting things to each other and instead of the bride and groom answering all you hear is a “BAAAAAAAA.”  Little moments like that make events special and Courtney and Mark’s Wedding was a very special event indeed.

The day was tailored by Mrs. Kaylene Horvey from Apple of Your Eye Wedding and Event Coordination and it was to die for.  Courtney and Mark’s Wedding had the most beautiful decor and entertainment.  The room looked breathtaking, but was no match for Courtney as she greeted her groom and the love of her life to be bonded together forever.

It was such an honor and so much fun working with this couple and their wedding party, despite it being a pretty chilly day outside everyone did awesome.  It is never pleasant to be cold and having your pictures taken as if you were standing on a nice warm beach, but this couple did a fantastic job!  Thank you to both of you for allowing First Blush Photography – Wedding Photography to share in your day and help you create memories that you will love and cherish forever.
