Two: A Portrait Session | Red Deer Photography

You only turn two once.
The age of two opens up a whole new world of exciting changes and possibilities for a child.  They begin to understand the world in a whole different way as they big to transition from baby hood to early childhood.  They begin to understand (or not understand) what it means to be a “toddler” and they grow and finally being to fit into some REALLY AWESOME CLOTHES.

This little beauty enchanted me all session long while celebrating her 2nd birthday.  A beautiful dress by Tutu Du Monde and a harmonica made the day.  She was just as happy as a clam and more importantly determined to make the harmonica make some noise – and what a wonderful noise it was!  It was a beautiful tune that sounded like the Happy Birthday song in her own sense.  She blew and blew and blew on that instrument and was so pleased with the outcome – it was so much fun to watch that discovery in real time.
A little about the shoot itself – I really enjoy focusing on the subject who I am shooting – in this case it was this wonderful two year old.  Adding too much ‘extra’ to a shoot distracts from the subject and what a terrible situation it would be to not have her not focused on completely.  It would have been a darn shame indeed!  I have a two prop maximum for toddler and child sessions to make sure that you will get the images you really want – not a bunch of ‘stuff’ clogging up the image and taking the focus off the subject.  I have seen a lot of images in the last several years online and I find it really disappointing when a child is literally lost in props and your searching to find them.  It certainly does not cause me sleeping issues, but looking at images like those are what really helped me personally define my style as I would not want my children shot in that manner.  Is it right for another photographer – sure and I certainly have no problem with that, it just isn’t for First Blush Photography.
